Project Knooppunten (highway interchanges)

I am excited to announce that I started my first series of artworks as a recently graduated textile designer.

This series explores highway interchanges, their shapes, history and impact on society and landscapes. They are pieces of art that we do not notice in daily life because they became so interwoven in our environment. Their complexity and beauty only becomes visible when viewed from above.

Lost on the map of Rotterdam

The fourth work in this series is inspired by an old map of Rotterdam. The map shows the ring of Rotterdam with all its highway interchanges. They are a total of  16 and all of them are (slightly) different. Some of them even show parts that still need to be build,  which leaves me wondering how functional this map actually would have been.

The map is part of the collection of maps that my grandparents collected over time. Most of them are regular maps from the places that they visited before google maps existed.
